Cornerstone is running for the ocean!
On Monday, September 28th at 11 AM, every student from Kindergarten to Grade 7 will lace up for our Ocean Run. Students are collecting pledges from family and friends for each lap they complete, and every dollar raised goes to The Ocean Cleanup.
Our students have all been learning about this organization and the responsibility we share to take charge of the environmental challenges of our time. Many of them have been picking up garbage during lunch hour and recess on their own, and they are eager to help in any way they can. This run is their chance to turn that energy into real impact.

Cornerstone is running for a cleaner ocean!
Thursday 24th SepWhy The Ocean Cleanup?
- It was started in 2013 by Boyan Slat, a Dutch inventor who was just 18 years old when he shared his idea.
- Its goal is to remove 90% of floating ocean plastic by 2040.
- It has already removed more than 45 million kilograms of trash from oceans and rivers, including over 25 million kilograms in 2025 alone.
- Its solar-powered "Interceptors" catch plastic in rivers before it ever reaches the sea, in countries including Malaysia, Indonesia, Jamaica, Guatemala and Panama.
- Its ocean system, System 03, works in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, which holds an estimated 100 million kilograms of floating plastic.
- Plastic it collects is recycled into new products, including a Coldplay vinyl record made from plastic pulled out of rivers in Guatemala.
How you can help
Sponsor a runner. Pledge an amount per lap on your student's pledge sheet, or donate directly on this page.
Spread the word. Share this page with grandparents, neighbours, coworkers and social media. A pledge from across the country counts just as much as one from across the street!
We'll post photos and our lap total after the run. Thank you for cheering our runners on!
