I am fundraising to clean the ocean and for a DECA Community Giving Project!
Hi! My name is Scarlett Tolan, and for my DECA project this year I decided to fund raise to help clean the ocean!
DECA is the business club at my school where students participate in events that prepare them to be future entrepreneurs and leaders. This year I'm participating in the "Community Giving Project" event where participants aim to raise funds or collect donations for a charity or a cause.
As I was brainstorming potential causes to support, I watched a video in my business class about the waste problem in the ocean. I learned that there are 5 major patches of waste in the ocean. One of these patches is between the United States and Hawaii and is twice the size of Texas. The Ocean Cleanup’s mission is to remove 90% of floating ocean plastic by 2040.
Learning about this issue was a call to action for me to do something, and The Ocean Cleanup's mission perfectly aligned with what I am passionate about supporting.
